  • Overview

    Riveting opportunity for a Patent Agent to help build the Company’s intellectual property portfolio and contribute to its global patent strategy.

     

    Successful candidates should have demonstrable skills in evaluating new discoveries and seeing such discoveries through the patenting process from innovation disclosure to patent issuance. Candidates will preferably have a strong understanding of U.S. and foreign patent systems, including patent filing and prosecution processes, innovations review, patent searching, and freedom-to-operate analyses.

     

    The ideal candidate will have background in agriculture, plant molecular biology, biotechnology, plant breeding, genetics and modern genome editing techniques. The candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, professional, and committed to working as a team player, interacting with individuals throughout the organization, with a special emphasis on research and development. 

    Job Function

    • Patent Drafting: The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting high-quality U.S. patent applications for major agricultural companies.
    • Integration into the R&D organization
    • Patent Office Actions: Candidate will have experience responding to office actions with the USPTO.
    • Manage IP Portfolios: IP Strategy
    • Freedom-to-Operate, Due Diligence, and Patent Searches.
    • Present tutorials to the Company about intellectual property
    • Draft patent applications & work with outside councel
    • Provide prosecution instructions to domestic & foreign counsel
    • Contribute to development and evaluation of the Company's intellectual property strategy
    • Lead IP due diligence for in-licensing opportunities
    • Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and third-party portfolio assessments
    • Analyze new innovation disclosures and meet with scientists
    • Provide counseling on patent and related IP matters to the research team

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree (biology, molecular biology, agricutlure etc.); advanced degree(s) desirable
    • 7-10+ years of patent work experience in a broad range of biotech/biology applications including molecular & cellular biology, genetics, and agriculture.
    • Experience working as a bench scientist highly desirable
    • Candidate will be certified by USPTO
    • Academics Superior academic credentials required.
    • Deadline driven with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent writing and analytical skills; ability to provide IP advice in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing
    • Demonstrated ability to grasp scientific and technical concepts quickly
    • Communication skills to interact effectively with internal stakeholders (e.g., research and development, business development, and management) are essential
