    We are searching for a Controller to add direct value to a privately-held and vertically integrated agricultural processor with multiple entities in the Chico, CA area. This is a key position in the finance team and is expected to be a driver of improvement and excellence from a supervisory position.


    The Controller is responsible for measuring the company’s financial performance and enforcing the company’s accounting policies, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.  This person will work closely with the FP&A team, collaborating on forecasts, crop bookings and other overlapping activities.

    Job Function

    • Manage and oversee all general accounting practices and functions.
    • Assure that duties, responsibilities and authority of each accounting position are clearly defined, effective, and communicated to staff.
    • Direct preparation of internal and external financial statements in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.
    • Oversee monthly closing process, ensuring an effective close within four business days of month end, with the fifth day available for review and analysis.
    • Manage the year-end financial audit.
    • Manage and oversee tax preparation coordinating with outside tax preparers.
    • Ensure that all taxes are paid in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Actively manages daily treasury operations including cash balances, borrowing requirements, ACH, wire, and other payment operations.
    • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
    • Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, communicating key information, and initiating correcting actions.
    • Responsible for balance sheet and cash flow forecasts and analysis
    • Analysis and oversight of customer credit management.
    • Ensure compliance of company policies within all local, state, and federal regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA regulations and wage and hour laws.
    • Directly supervise the General Ledger Accountant and the Assistant Controller; indirectly supervise the AR, AP, and Deductions Teams who are directly supervised by the Assistant Controller.
    • Assist direct reports in the diagnosis and correction of finance issues and technical problems; teach direct reports the solution and how it was arrived at to enable them to self-resolve similar issues that arise later.
    • Oversee development of direct reports, actively mentoring and working to advance their skillsets.
    • Supervise and evaluate accounting staff ensuring that staff has the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives. Recommend staff changes for the accounting department. 
    • Conduct annual performance assessments. Coach and develop staff by providing an environment that encourages innovation and professional development.
    • Draft and administer development plans and provide development opportunities.
    • Adheres to safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for fellow employees within the regulations of all OSHA local, state and federal regulations.

    Job Requirements

    • 5 years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities, including financial reporting, analysis, and related financial functions.
    • 3 years of supervisory experience managing a multi-person team across varying financial functions
    • 3 years experience with a full function ERP system, such as Microsoft Dynamics Navision
    • Bachelor’s degree Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Master's Degree, CMA or CPA preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP
