  • Overview

    This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic CFO to add direct value to a successful transportation business with 200+ employees in Northern California. In partnership with the CEO, the CFO will play a critical role in sourcing, analyzing, and structuring potential acquisition targets while maintaining alignment with the Company’s overall strategic plan.

    Leading a team of 5 direct reports, the CFO will strengthen the finance and accounting capabilities and drive continued, acquisition-driven business growth.  

    Job Function

    • Direct the implementation of the strategic business plan in partnership with the CEO and President. 
    • Develop an annual budget and forecast for three companies, including the analysis of the Company's cost structure as well as monthly variances, quarterly actuals, and capital expenditure to assist in the strategic planning process. 
    • Prepare financial statements and consolidation for all entities, including entering and recording journal entries, accruing for labor and other expenses, recording monthly allocation for items that are split between companies and conducting account analysis periodically to ascertain that individual account balances are correct while maintaining the integrity of the individual statements.
    • Handle the personal finances of the owner and manage annual AAA distributions. 
    • Present timely and accurate consolidated financials to the Executive Management team and Board of Directors.  
    • Identify business development opportunities and conduct financial analysis relating to M&A activity or expansion projects. 
    • Lead due diligence process on synergistic businesses identified as potential acquisition targets and manage integration efforts. 
    • Maintain and develop banking and financial services relationships. 
    • Develop financial and tax strategies, review capital structure alternatives, and investment options
    • Arrange financing for new equipment purchases, review loan documents and covenants, manage investment leases and pricing.
    • Conduct industry peer analysis and benchmarking relating to costing structure and performance. 
    • Review structure of the finance and accounting function and assess areas of underperformance and build capabilities in these areas. 
    • Foster an atmosphere of collaboration across the organization while increasing accountability and improving efficiency by implementing KPIs and stretch goals.
    • Participate in industry events and networking opportunities.

     

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field required. MBA preferred.
    • 8+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience within a leadership capacity in the agricultural or transportation industry, preferably at a mid-sized, privately held company.
    • Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) with prior general ledger and month-end close process experience.
    • Working knowledge of Great Plains and QuickBooks preferred.
    • Experience consolidating multiple financial statements, including cashflow, balance sheets and P&L for multiple business entities.
    • Proven experience improving processes relating to financial budgets, forecasts, capital requests, consolidation, and reporting to the Company and its Board of Directors.
    • Experience maintaining banking relationships and preparing for annual CPA audit.
    • Ability to provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance through potential acquisitions while advising on the impact of long-range planning. Hands-on due diligence and integration experience preferred.
    • Ability to provide tactical leadership to a high-performing team focused on increasing efficiency, accountability, and profitability.
    • Engage with all levels within the organization as well as outside vendors, identify their needs and recommend business solutions.
    • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
    • High level of integrity with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
    • Ability to work accurately, autonomously, and multi-task under deadline.  Willingness to “go the extra mile” when required.
