  • Overview

    Exciting opportunity to build an organic and non-GMO trading desk servicing North American dairy and poultry producers for a Kansas City based specialty commodity business.

    Job Function

    • Utilize existing relationships to grow the organic and non-GMO sales and trading/merchandising business.
    • Oversee the daily execution of physical trades including communication with suppliers, customers and freight vendors.
    • Manage and actively participate in all aspects of organic grain merchandising with the goal of meeting cost, profitability and growth goals.
    • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of domestic and global market trends and competitor activities. 
    • Revise marketing strategies and programs to capitalize on identified opportunities through strategic partnerships or new channels to expand company’s footprint.
    • Collaborate with specialty product origination team to support the growth in sales by establishing organic grain values and providing competitive purchasing programs.
    • Coordinate logistics, documentation staff and operational personnel to ensure timely and cost-effective supply and movement of organic products.
    • Build high performing merchandising team focused on further developing capabilities and seeking out new business opportunities.

    Job Requirements

    • BS degree in Agriculture, Business, Management or related.
    • 10+ years of commodity trading experience with an existing book of business with organic feed ingredients suppliers and end-users (ideally within the dairy or poultry markets) in North America.
    • Deep understanding of freight movements, merchandising and arbitrage business.
    • Track record of margin enhancement and value-added approach to business development
    • Understanding of various commodity quality classes and requirements.
    • Hands-on sales, relationship management and customer retention experience
    • Experience managing logistics and establishing pricing strategies.
    • Ability to travel up to 30% to meet customers and attend industry events.
    • Be willing to wear numerous hats within the division and take on tasks and projects that are required for the success of the group
