    Searching for a Food & Pet Food Ingredients Merchandiser to add direct value to the specialty products division of a commodity trading business based in Kansas City.

    Job Function

    • Responsible for the sourcing and sales of specialty products to customers and suppliers in North America. 
    • Oversee the daily execution of physical trades including communication with suppliers, customers and freight vendors.
    • Build a strong understanding of the products handled by the company, the quality classes of products and how they are valued, the intended destination markets for classes, freight lanes and opportunities for arbitrage.
    • Price and contract negotiation for physical commodities. Requires a high volume of communication with key players throughout the marketplace and analysis of market information to assess supply and demand trends.
    • Explore marketing partnership opportunities for the company to expand its footprint.
    • Look for new ingredients to place into pet food channels that are existing.
    • Execute and optimize supply chains from different origins to many destinations within the North American market.
    • Heavy cold calling and networking to source new origins, partnerships and/or ingredients to build new business for origination or end-use.
    • Pitch buyers on the company and execute in-person sales that may occur in a board room setting.
    • Maintain and develop relationships with freight providers including truckers, rail carriers and other modes of freight. 
    • Contract formation, supply chain management, position management, accounts receivable management.

    Job Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience ideally trading specialty ingredients or managing flat price, physical commodities such as wheat middlings, cottonseed, DDGs, and other byproducts.
    • Existing book of business with suppliers and end-users in North America.
    • Deep understanding of freight movements, merchandising and arbitrage business.
    • Track record of margin enhancement and value-added approach to business development
    • Understanding of various commodity quality classes and requirements.
    • Hands-on sales, relationship management and customer retention experience
    • Experience managing logistics and establishing pricing strategies.
    • Ability to travel up to 30% to meet customers and attend industry events.
    • Be willing to wear numerous hats within the division and take on tasks and projects that are required for the success of the group
