  • Overview

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager to add value to an egg company in Missouri. The purpose of this role is to plan, direct and oversee the safe and efficient operation of the production facility. Provide necessary resources to members of management team in order to achieve quality and best cost. This person will provide management oversight of day-to-day operations and long-term processing work, activities, and project work.


    The Production Manager is responsible for the daily supervision of the Complex Production operation, while performing regular duties as a production employee. This role will be responsible for the supervision of the Production operation (bird husbandry and care, barns sanitation and maintenance, manure removal, waste water and employee supervision).


    Production team members work in laying hen barns and their number one priority is caring for the hens. This includes ensuring the hens have constant access to feed and water, monitoring lighting, temperature and air quality, and checking the health of each hen. Production team members also maintain the egg belts that carry eggs from the barn to the processing facility to be washed, packaged and shipped. Hens are cared for 7 days/week.

    Job Function

    • Develop a team of 25+ production staff committed to safety and quality.
    • Support and lead activities at the farm in line with good management practices and standard operating procedures with the objective to protect birds, prevent accidents and injuries, equipment and facility damage the daily/routine activities for the Production team.
    • Supervise the daily/routine activities of the Production team to ensure animal husbandry and care responsibilities are performed consistently and effectively by employees.
    • Plan schedules and implement metrics for productivity, efficiency, customer service, cost, quality, safety and employee engagement objectives.
    • Monitor and regulate live bird production operations, ensuring that the highest quality product is produced at the lowest possible cost, and in the safest manner possible.
    • Review production reports, conduct trend analysis and make decisions in order to maximize efficiency of production operation.
    • Interact with Quality Control and the USDA to support food safety requirements, quality and yield consistency.
    • Oversee and maintain of the HACCP plan, SQF certification, FDA & USDA compliance for facility.
    • Conduct monthly reviews of quality programs and manage internal and external reporting.
    • Identify and manage all problems and situations, which have an impact on operations, in order to minimize down time and production inefficiencies.
    • Lead continuous improvement activities for quality, safety, and bio-security.
    • Oversee and coordinate maintenance of barns, equipment and fans.
    • Ensure that an accurate inventory of all operation inputs are cataloged and updated regularly.
    • Work hands-on in the production facilities as needed to cover the work load, demonstrate expectations, and train employees.
    • Assist in the personnel management of the Production employees. Pursue opportunities to improve self, employees, and processes.
    • Coordinate training of new employees and the ongoing training of all employees.
    • Manage employee promotion, consideration, employee familiarization and compliance with all company policies and regulation, employee relations, employee grievances, and wage administration.
    • Enforce company policies and rules in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Regularly communicate with Complex Manager with regard to employee situations and problems.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
    • 5 years of supervisory experience in live bird operations preferred.
    • Capable of performing routine math calculations, including percentages and fractions.
    • Able to train and motivate department personnel.
    • Must be computer literate (i.e., working knowledge of Windows applications).
    • Ability to quickly address critical and urgent situations in a timely and consistent manner.
    • Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus.
    • Ability to comply with the strictest standards for animal welfare and to report incidents of abuse, neglect, or breach of bio-security in order to preserve the health and welfare of the birds.
