    We are searching for a Group Controller to add direct value to a privately-held, and vertically integrated agricultural processor in the Turlock area. 


    This is a highly visible position, reporting directly to the owners of the company, and will provide strategic expertise and recommendations that enable effective decision making within the business. 


    The Group Controller is responsible for improving standard costing, streamlining financial reporting and eliminating inefficiencies, such as reducing the month-end close.  The Controller will provide hands-on leadership to a team of 5+ direct reports across FP&A, Grower Accounting, AR/AP, Payroll and IT.

    Job Function

    • Oversee the operations, policy and procedures of the finance and accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
    • Preparation of the monthly close process and month end balances. Conduct analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
    • Direct all aspects of year end close and year end audit including scheduling auditors and ensuring the audit flows smoothly and timely.
    • Preparing the annual budget & forecasts, including production cost, crop income statement, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow.
    • Consolidate monthly financials for multiple entities and present to Board of Directors.
    • Provide financial analyses for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
    • Optimize the use of the ERP system for financial reporting and analysis of operational metrics.
    • Manage banking relationships, including reconciliations, debt reporting and compliance with covenants. Review capital structure alternatives.
    • Oversee compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filing.
    • Ensure timely processing of AP/AR, payroll and Grower Accounting.
    • Hire, train, develop and manage the performance of the accounting and finance team.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.  CPA, CMA, MBA preferred.
    • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience at an agricultural processor or food manufacturer with a background in cost accounting.
    • Ability to confidently present financials to Board of Directors and provide financial analysis for capex, pricing and contract negotiations.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and knowledge of current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Track record of establishing controls to improve standard costing and financial reporting.
    • Sense of urgency and commitment to building a business.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
    • Experience upgrading accounting and ERP systems.
    • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel).
