  • Overview

    The role of the Assistant Controller is to manage the business unit accounting duties. A successful assistant controller will meet all month end deadlines as well as expectations from internal and external customers and assist with office management responsibilities and controller functions as needed. The assistant controller reports to the division controller, and works closely with other members of the divisional leadership team.

    Job Function

    • Ensures paperwork is entered in a timely manner.
    • Inventory analysis and reconciliation
    • Plant cost accounting
    • Sales margin analysis
    • Operating expense analysis
    • Month-end journal entries
    • Mark-to-market accounting
    • Preparation of monthly and yearly financial statements
    • Work with external auditors for year end audit
    • Preparation of yearly departmental budgets
    • Monthly budget to actual analysis
    • Assist credit department with customer account balance reconciliation and research
    • Identify and recommend process improvement.
    • Other duties assigned as needed

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Accounting/Business focus preferred. Five or more years of experience in the accounting field required.    
    • High competentcy in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Access. Prior Agris accounting software a plus.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as invoices, statements, corporate safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence effectively and professionally with divisional management, corporate management, employees, customers, and vendors.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to analyze trends and identify variances in financial and operational reports.        
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests; able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; supports everyone's efforts to succeed.
