  • Overview

    Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, guidance and training within the Laboratory as well as ensuring that all plant, Food Safety, and quality requirements are met. Also responsible to ensure all products leaving the facility are fully compliant to customer, regulatory, industry and company requirements. This position is responsible for aligning the food safety, quality & lab operations in accordance with other company functions to the Vision, Values and Strategic Objectives of this organization.

    Job Function

     

     

    Lab Responsibilities

    • Keep all laboratory equipment functional and operating within assigned parameters.
    • Establish testing and research to help develop new products.
    • Develop and implement specific lab procedures/work instructions for product testing.
    • Train and enhance lab personnel work skills and performance.
    • Delegate routine lab duties and sanitation tasks on a weekly basis.
    • Calibrate instruments and maintain all lab equipment in good working order.
    • Organize and maintain all hard-copy and electronic lab records and documentation.
    • Review and edit all lab documentation on a daily basis.
    • Set up Document Control System in accordance with BRC requirements.
    • Maintain the lab’s consumables inventory and submit purchase orders as required.
    • Identify problems in the lab, and develop solutions

    General Management and Leadership

    • Ensure all regulatory compliance.
    • Follow established Human Resources procedures.
    • Evaluate the performance of quality, sanitation and lab teams.
    • Ensure proper staffing and training of personnel.
    • Scheduling of employees to meet production goals.
    • Create a team working environment.
    • Develop key process indicators to measure quality and productivity.
    • Administer Coaching and Counseling where needed.
    • Utilize the Integrated Management System.

    Food Safety, Quality and Sanitation

      • Maintain a safe work environment in both areas of food and health safety.
      • Ensure customer specifications and needs are achieved.
      • Maintain all food safety records that are inspection-ready at all times.
      • Update, adhere to and maintain HARPC Plan.
      • Maintain logs of customer quality issues.
      • Develop key process indicators to measure food safety, quality and sanitation standards.
      • Train operators and support personnel as needed to meet all GMP and BRC standards.
      • Maintain necessary records for BRC, HARPC and GMP programs.
      • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
      • Utilize SPC where applicable.
      • Maintain work area at a BRC AA level.
      • Ensure that all regulatory requirements are kept up-to-date. 
      • Complete and follow through with all needed C.A.R.

     

     

     

     

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree – Chemistry, Biology, or Microbiology  
    • Significant laboratory experience within work or scholastic setting
    • Superior organizational, multi-tasking and written communication skills
    • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
    • Verbal, written and math proficiency
    • BRC, GMP and HACCP knowledge
