  • Overview

    We are working on an exciting opportunity for a Plant Engineer with a background in preventative maintenance to build a team and work directly with the senior management team to automate plant processes and recommend continuous improvement programs across 3 sites for an ingredients manufacturer in Chicago.

    Job Function

    Leadership:

    • Lead our engineering function in the selection and prioritization of initiatives. This must be accomplished by aligning the strategic planning and understanding of business needs, targets, and culture.
    • Lead the development and alignment of human talent to fully support facilities plants and grounds needs.
    • Lead the linkage to the Operations, Quality and Safety needs.


    Cost:

    • Leads a total cost optimization strategy to capture opportunities in areas such as managing preventative engineering/maintenance, manufacturing processes, labor reductions etc.
    • Responsible for the overall department budget including engineering CAPEX.
    • Track and manage Capital and Project Expense.
    • Creation of PO (Purchase Orders) for Projects.

     
    Service:

    • Leads a strategy to improve and maintain customer service with measurable targets in areas such as on time delivery, carrier damage/loss, customer complaints, and other relevant metrics.
    • Leads a strategy to improve and maintain service to internal customers with measurable standards and targets. Develops a team driven towards positive attitude and high service level to internal and external customers.
    • Provide global support to our Sales department in projects to optimize our Supply Chain all the way to our customers. This position will effectively support projects to optimize overseas warehousing, global freight, customs management, and other logistics needed to improve value to our customers.


    Functional:

    • Review and evaluate Capital Projects Contracts.
    • Coordinate processing, packaging, utilities, and build scope of work.
    • Responsible for engineering standard compliance – e.g., GMP, FSMA, GFSI standards
    • Works directly with Operations to gain understanding and alignment of business needs and objectives.
    • Evaluates and identifies external advancements in the industry to improve ROI of manufacturing processes and reduce operating expenses.
    • Plan, direct, coordinate and perform preventative engineering/maintenance projects.
    • Responsible for developing and documenting standard operating procedures for all department processes.
    • Directly manage employees, parts and inventory
    • Implementing and managing the maintenance programs
    • Test and monitor all plant processes
    • Maintain all administrative records
    • Ensure safety and efficiency in the plant
    • Able to lead root cause analysis investigations
    • Overseeing plant and building maintenance to ensure downtime is minimized and regulatory requirements are met
    • Coordinates all outside contractors on jobs in plant. Monitors the performance of all outside contractors with respect to time, scope, cost and compliance to GMP’s and quality assurance.

    Job Requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field. Certifications – Electrical, HVAC, Stationary Engineer preferred.
    • 5+ years of plant engineering experience within an ingredients processing or food manufacturing environment.
    • Background in preventative maintenance, documentation and liaising with internal and external auditors.
    • Experience analyzing and automating manufacturing processes as well as recommending continuous improvement programs to senior management.
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with a track record in developing high performing teams by establishing KPIs and encouraging collaboration across multiple functions.
