  • Overview

    Seeking a self-starting visionary who can concentrate on detail while grasping the “big picture" of a hardwood floor manufacturing operation in Upstate New York.  The Operations Manager is a member of the Management Team and will play a key role in developing and executing the strategic plan of the Company.

     

    The Operations Manager provides ongoing support and leadership to all reporting staff and assists those key people in achieving goals, objectives and adherence to Company policies and procedures. 

    It is essential that the Operations Manager possesses strong interpersonal skills and is able to provide leadership in the planning, direction and supervision of all scheduling, production, inventory, delivery and sales activities of the Company by establishing and maintaining guidelines for standards of performance.

     

    He/she should be able to delegate responsibilities; be able to objectively evaluate the performance of others; and be able to hold others accountable for their performance in a constructive manner. This is a key management position that requires an individual who is goal oriented and committed to the company’s financial well being.

    Job Function

    • Design and implement plans for the effective use of material and labor resources to achieve manufacturing target
    • Supervise the operations of manufacturing personnel to ensure a manufacturing process is within budget and time schedule
    • Oversee the hiring, orienting, and training of technical production employees to ensure a competent workforce.
    • Review personnel performance and hold team accountable through establishing and maintaining KPIs.
    • Assess opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize production. 
    • Oversee the regulation of work shift to ensure proper workload distribution
    • Monitor a manufacturing team to ensure operations are in compliance with health and safety standards
    • Schedule the maintenance of production equipment and machines to ensure efficient operations
    • Liaise with quality assurance to ensure product quality and specification are consistent
    • Collaborate with marketing and sales staff to implement strategies that’ll improve the marketability of manufactured products
    • Oversee the procurement of raw materials and equipment required for manufacturing

    Job Requirements

    • BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or 10+ years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a hardwood flooring operations and/or related industry.
    • 5+ years of production management or project management experience is preferred with responsibility for complete operational reporting to senior management.
    • Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives and opportunities to expand the business.
    • Experience hiring, training and building a high performing team and establishing key performance indicators to hold the team accountable.
    • Financial and business acumen with the ability to provide accurate production and operating data in a timely manner.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with company managers, employees, customers, outside subcontractors and other vendor firms.
    • Must have the skill and knowledge to identify and prioritize operational and personnel issues and the ability to solve problems and execute policies and procedures through the Management Team.
    • Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
    • Must possess an excellent knowledge of the hardwood floor manufacturing or construction related business.
