  • Overview

    Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of food safety and quality assurance systems.  This position works closely with the quality assurance manager and ensures work is processed and completed to the highest quality and in compliance with all policy and procedures.  Provides general administrative and clerical assistance to the quality assurance manager.  This role utilizes excellent organizational skills and a professional understanding of quality assurance to assist the team in meeting department goals. 

    Job Function

    • Support the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the food safety and quality assurance programs within the company.
    • Ongoing maintenance of the foreign supplier verification program.
    • Work with the sales manager in completing the supplier approval process for new customers.
    • Assist the quality assurance manager with origin food safety and quality assurance system compliance.
    • Execute and maintain the document control system for the company.
    • Develop and maintain the product specifications within the company.
    • Review origin paperwork for completeness and compliance to written programs.
    • Organize and assure completion of the origin laboratory sampling schedule.
    • Complete accurate and timely data entry for process and laboratory data.
    • Participate in the investigation of any product quality issues.
    • Assist in onboarding new origin food safety and quality systems.
    • Assist the specialty products merchandiser with special projects.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in food science, feed science or a related field.
    • 3+ years in a food safety and quality assurance role. 
    • Broad knowledge of quality assurance testing methods related to legumes, oilseeds and grains.  Experience in the organic space would be a plus.
    • Must possess knowledge of relevant FDA requirements per the FSMA.
    • Experience with 3rd party food safety certifications (SQF, BRC, ISO, etc.).  PCQI certified, HACCP training, SQF Practitioner would be a plus.
    • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn processes, follow procedures and question methods.
    • Broad knowledge of laboratory processes, procedures and equipment. Ability to track production processes and answer basic questions about purpose and troubleshooting.
    • Moderate knowledge and experience using spreadsheet and word-processing software (e.g., MS Excel and MS Word).
    • Ability to communicate in a professional manner in both written and verbal formats.
    • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and prioritize workload.
