  • Overview

    Seeking a dynamic Specialty Ingredients Merchandiser for a rapidly growing pet food commodity business. This individual will be engaged in sourcing and trading chickpeas, yellow peas, green peas, red lentils, flax, durum, and malt barley across Canada and the US.

     

     

     

    Job Function

    • Optimize the company’s market share, improve efficiencies, help achieve the mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer’s service.
    • Responsible for origination, seeking new customers, record keeping, safety and maintenance, sales, and producer education.
    • Negotiates both purchases and sales of specialty products at margin levels in accordance with the business plan.
    • Maintains close working relationship with suppliers, transportation companies/personnel, customers and manufacturing facilities.
    • Participates in Company meetings, keeping sales staff current on product development opportunities and techniques as part of the overall specialty products team selling approach.
    • Maintains contact with customers in relation to their existing and potential volume for business.
    • Liaises with customers to keep them current on the availability of Company products, services, outside services and new product availability.
    • Keeps a pulse on competitive activity and works closely with the executive team to develop strategies, sales programs and execution of the marketing plan.
    • Keeps records and produces reports on all phases of activities as required.
    • Develops new accounts by making presentations of Company programs, products and services to prospective clients.
    • Works closely with all personnel regarding areas of credit and collection.
    • Communicates reported service requests and/or complaints from customers according to Company policies and procedures.
    • Participate in industry tradeshows and associations.
    • Submits required cycle reports, expense accounts, etc., as dictated by Company guidelines.
    • Achieves cycle and annual sales forecasts by effectively utilizing all sales tools and resources provided.

    Job Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience originating pet food ingredients, specialty grains and pea proteins preferred.
    • Track record of margin enhancement and value-added approach to business development while maintaining the requirements on quality and safety
    • Hands-on relationship building and customer retention experience
    • Experience managing logistics and establishing pricing strategies.
    • Ability to travel up to 30% to meet customers and attend industry events.
