  • Overview

    Transportation Manager directs all transportation operations, maintenance, transportation safety, and dispatch operations for the Idaho division. The Transportation Manager supervises all full time and part time employees to accomplish their responsibilities. The Manager also coordinates operations schedule, coordinates customer’s usage and on-hand inventory to meet customer delivery needs, and coordinates customer relation events in coordination with salesmen. This role will also complete special projects as assigned by the General Manager.

    Job Function

    • Manage transportation personnel to insure deliveries of manufactured feeds are made to meet customer delivery needs.
    • Manage transportation personnel to insure commodity deliveries are made to meet customer delivery needs.
    • Dispatch orders timely and coordinate production schedules with Operations group to insure efficient use of equipment.
    • Observe DOT, OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations; maintain equipment to meet those regulations and standards.
    • Conduct monthly safety training classes with your staff. Provide monthly reporting on truck utilization efficiencies.
    • Purchase fuel, comparing pricing and evaluating quality for fleet needs.  
    • Review and provide  monthly fuel usage and inventory report to accounting.
    • Evaluate, prepare and present equipment replacement costing, utilizing the most efficient fuel and operating standards.
    • Will work with the Operations Manager to schedule and budget all major repairs and upgrades to the truck fleet.
    • Supervise all full and part time employees.  
    • At times maybe required to make feed deliveries, drive and evaluate equipment, and review operating status of drivers and fleet.
    • Train all employees under your supervision in the safe operation of all on-road equipment.
    • Advise the Operations Manager on discipline and performance issues and performance appraisals for employees under your supervision.  
    • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the unit and a favorable image of the Company.
    • Desire to learn better and more efficient techniques to improve your performance and company profitability. 

    Job Requirements

    Education / Experience

    • 5 years experience in transportation logistics with a four year degree in Ag Business, Fleet Management or related field or associate’s degree from a two year college or technical school.


    • High school degree or GED with at least 10 years experience in a related field.


    Background & Skills

    • Agriculture background required, grain trucking exp. preferred.
    • Experience in transportation fleet management, understanding of equipment specifications and order dispatching.
    • Working knowledge of DOT regulations is necessary.
    • Must also maintain DOT drivers license. 
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software
